Combining economic incentives with technological advances, Garlick predicts a major shift where AI can perform more tasks with higher quality at lower cost. This trend could gradually replace human labor across multiple industries.
Explosive Growth In AI Robot Numbers
According to Garlick’s recent research, the AI population is projected to surge dramatically.Mobile robots, household cleaning bots, and autonomous vehicles are all part of this expansion.
Citi’s 2024 report estimates that the total number of AI robots will reach 1.3 billion units by 2035. By 2050, this figure could exceed 4 billion, including both humanoids and smaller AI agents.
The study also examined the break-even point for robots replacing human labor. For instance, a $15,000 robot can recover costs in just 3.8 weeks for high-wage jobs or 21.6 weeks for lower-wage positions.

Companies Integrating AI At An Unprecedented Pace
Work Trend Index from Microsoft shows that 80% of business leaders expect widespread AI integration within 12–18 months. AI agents are software programs capable of decision-making and task execution with minimal human input.
McKinsey & Company’s global managing partner, Bob Sternfels, reported employing 20,000 AI agents alongside 40,000 human employees. Just a year earlier, the company had only 3,000 AI agents, highlighting the rapid adoption.
Sternfels anticipates that within 18 months, AI agents will match the number of human workers in some firms. This illustrates the accelerating pace of automation across corporate environments.
